60th Birthday at Avisford Park Hotel

A Surprise 60th Birthday Bash at Avisford Park Hotel, Yapton, West Sussex.

Last night, we had the absolute pleasure of providing the party DJ hire for a fantastic 60th birthday celebration in the Henty Suite at the beautiful Avisford Park Hotel in Yapton, West Sussex. The entire night was a massive surprise for the birthday boy, meticulously planned by his wonderful wife.
The Guest Singer
The room was packed with friends, including one who happened to be a singer. He asked if he could plug his iPad into our sound system and use a microphone for a 45-minute set. He had a great, strong Northern voice, but unfortunately, the crowd didn’t quite warm to the performance—his setlist was a bit too long, and a couple of the tracks didn’t match the room’s energy.
A Blast from the Past
Earlier in the evening, I had a great opportunity to catch up with a close friend and fellow DJ, Gary Booker of V2 Radio fame. I hadn’t seen Gary since early last year when I was performing a daytime disco event at Sheiks nightclub on Bognor Pier. On that day, Gary had some time to kill while his family went to the cinema, so I invited him to take over the decks for half an hour. It felt just like the old days, dropping old-school bangers for a crowd hungry for the next tune. Last night, we got to catch up properly for a good half an hour, reminiscing about the good old times and talking about how life is treating us both now.
Time for the Disco!
As soon as it was time for the disco, I dropped the first tune, and the dance floor instantly filled up with happy people. Interestingly, I only received one single request the entire night—and it came straight from the birthday man himself. He asked for a track called “Wham Bam” by Silver, featured on the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack. I hadn’t heard of it before, but luckily it was right there in the system. The moment it played, he and his friends sang along to every word of the chorus. It just goes to show you should always keep an open mind when it comes to music!
Filling the Dance Floor
Back to the party at hand—our dance floor was in full swing! The classic floor-fillers went down a storm, but the surprise winner of the night was “Islands in the Stream” by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. The crowd was absolutely loving the ’80s vibe, and another massive hit was the energetic version of “Country Roads” by the Hermes House Band.
As the clock approached midnight, I minded the hotel’s strict noise curfew and steered the room into a massive “Sweet Caroline” sing-along by Neil Diamond. As the music faded out, the birthday man gave me a massive thumbs-up, leaving the room full of smiles.
Onwards to the next event!
